48 hours in Broad Haven & Little Haven

Village charm and coastal calm

Updated

12 August 2025

With their sandy shores, warm community spirit, and dramatic coastal scenery, Broad Haven and Little Haven offer the perfect short break getaway in Pembrokeshire.

Just a short walk apart (yes, you can stroll between them along the beach at low tide or via the coast path when the tide’s in), these neighbouring villages each have their own personality – Broad Haven being the family-friendly, beach holiday classic, and Little Haven the picture perfect, pocket-sized cove full of character and charm.

Whether you’re after a relaxed weekend escape, a beach break with the kids, or a taste of the slower pace of Pembrokeshire life, here’s how to make the most of 48 hours in this stunning part of the Welsh coast.

On your first day…

Start your break in Broad Haven, a firm favourite for Pembrokeshire beach holidays. Its Blue Flag beach is long, flat and ideal for families – great for paddling, swimming and sandcastle competitions. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer, making it a safe and welcoming option for all ages.

After a walk along the promenade, take a peaceful nature stroll along the reeds boardwalk behind the beach – a lesser-known accessible walk where you can spot birdlife and enjoy the quieter, wilder side of the coast.

The Galleon Inn

There are plenty of options for a relaxed lunch in Broad Haven – from takeaway fish and chips to light bites from local cafes, so you can fuel up before an afternoon of exploring. The Galleon Inn is right in the heart of the village. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and hearty pub classics, it’s a great place to enjoy fresh seafood or a traditional Welsh ale by the sea.

If you're feeling active after lunch, follow the coast path in either direction for stunning clifftop views. To the south, the path curves over to Little Haven, with views over St Brides Bay. The beach route between the villages is also walkable at low tide – just check tide times before you set off.

Stylish vibes at Rwts

For dinner, book a table at Rwts restaurant, a stylish, laid back gem in Broad Haven offering a modern, seasonal menu crafted with local produce. With beautifully designed interiors and indoor and outdoor seating, this is coastal dining at its finest – perfect for a romantic dinner or relaxed evening treat.

Stay the night:

  • Rocksdrift House & SeaView Apartments – For those who want to wake up to the sound of waves and unbeatable coastal views, Rocksdrift & SeaView Apartments are self-catering stays right on the seafront. These stylish, modern apartments offer large windows, comfortable interiors, and fully equipped kitchens, making them ideal for both short stays and longer breaks. With the beach literally across the road and cafes, pubs, and the coast path on your doorstep, they’re perfect for families, couples, or solo travellers wanting a front-row seat to Broad Haven’s beach life.

Timber Hill Lodges

  • Timber Hill Lodges – Tucked away in a peaceful wooded valley just above Broad Haven, Timber Hill Lodges offer a unique escape that blends rustic charm with modern comfort. These Scandinavian-style red cedar lodges are spread across a tranquil, car-free site, perfect for families, couples, or anyone looking to unwind in nature. Each lodge features spacious living areas, fully equipped kitchens, and private outdoor decking – ideal for al fresco dining or watching the local wildlife. On-site facilities include a children’s play area and expansive open spaces, making it a safe and relaxing retreat.

Little Haven

The next day…

Day two is all about soaking up the laid-back charm of Little Haven. Once a busy fishing village, it’s now a haven (pun intended) for artists, walkers, foodies and beach lovers. The small bay is a joy to explore – flanked by cliffs and boats bobbing in the sea, it’s the kind of place where you instantly feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard.

Cornerhouse Cafe

Start your day with a relaxed breakfast at the Cornerhouse Cafe – a warm and welcoming space serving up great coffee and fresh food. From bubble teas to indulgent slices of homemade Little Haven Cheesecakes, it’s a must visit while you’re in the village. And it’s also dog friendly!

Take some time to explore the village and its surroundings – the beach here is smaller than Broad Haven’s but full of nooks and crannies, great for kids to explore and adults to relax. At low tide, you can still walk back to Broad Haven across the beach – or head up onto the coast path for big sea views and bracing sea air.

In the evening, grab an ice cream, find a bench above the slipway, and watch the sun begin to dip behind the cliffs. It’s the perfect slow moment to end your stay. If you fancy a low-key meal, local pubs offer hearty Welsh fare, or grab a bite and enjoy a beachside supper – no dress code required.

The Hideaway

If you're staying a second night, The Hideaway offers peaceful, modern self-catering accommodation in the heart of Little Haven – just a short stroll from the beach but tucked away for privacy and rest. Ideal for couples or small families, this beautifully appointed retreat blends modern comforts with a cosy, coastal feel. The space includes a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable lounge area, and a private outdoor patio perfect for morning coffees or evening relaxation. It also features a luxurious hot tub, ideal for unwinding after a day of coast walking or beach exploring.

Why you’ll want to come back

With quaint streets, golden beaches, and a real sense of local community, Little Haven and Broad Haven offer that rare combination of village charm and seaside adventure. Whether you're feasting on cheesecakes, walking the coast path, relaxing in a lodge, or sipping wine with sea views, two days will never feel quite long enough.

The good news? Pembrokeshire will always welcome you back.
