Jemma Elsley is a Ceramic Artist and teacher creating unique, hand-built clay sculptures from her studio in South Pembrokeshire.
With a life long love of creativity her journey started studying general art and design, before graduating from Cardiff University with a BA Hons Degree in Ceramics in 1998. Sharing her passion for being creative lead her into teaching within further education, before relocating to Pembrokeshire in 2018.
With the beautiful Pembrokeshire landscape as her new found inspiration, Open Skies Studio was established as a base to not only create from, but to welcome others who are looking to explore the therapeutic nature of working in clay.
Jemma's sculptural pieces are all individually hand made and explore aspects of the natural world and the creatures within it. Her playful style and love of surface pattern and modelled details can be seen within the highly detailed work she produces. Pieces are made from a range of clays all sourced in the UK and finished using a number of techniques which emphasis the patterns, colours and textures within the natural world.
The studio welcomes visitors interested in viewing a working studio and also anyone looking to try their hand at something themselves. Project led sessions are available for small groups, alongside 1:1 tuition and specific sessions can be organised as social get togethers, celebrating special occasions or as parties. Jemma also offers 'travelling' sessions which can be tailored to your needs, covering ideas such as general well-being, workplace sessions, team-building and respite. All ages and abilities can be catered for, with the focus being on hand-building techniques.
