Sea Trust Wales is a marine conservation charity based in Pembrokeshire at the Ocean Lab, Goodwick. Sea Trust was awarded charitable status in November 2019 but has operated since 2003 as a CIC.
We are working to study and protect local marine wildlife and raise community awareness. We aim to inspire people to care about their local marine wildlife by opening their eyes to the stunning diversity of wildlife around the Welsh coast and engaging them in its protection.
We believe that people power is paramount to conservation, but people only protect what they care about, therefore education is vital in protecting our ocean. Our environmental research, education, and conservation work, combined in our motto CARE (Conservation, Awareness, Research, and Education), underpins all we do.
Our Visitor Centre experience at Ocean Lab includes:
• An educational Catch & Release Aquarium - showcasing Wales' incredible marine life - Watch Aquarium Film
• Seashore Safaris – taking visitors on rock pooling adventures on the local seashore
• A Discovery Room with a VR Experience and Pwll Y Môr (virtual rock pooling)
• A Gift Shop full of eco & marine themed gifts (and local artisans)
• A Café with seafront views and outdoor seating which runs separately as a CIC - the profits of which go back to Sea Trust Wales
• A Community Hub – accommodating several local groups such as a Repair Café and art group.
• A Community Garden including a sculpture as part of the local Art Trail.
Our Work and its Importance:
Our oceans regulate climate, absorbing carbon dioxide and heat and generating oxygen, as well as providing jobs, livelihoods, tourism and a valuable source of food. Marine ecosystems provide habitat and food for millions of species. Preservation and protection of our marine environments is crucial to ensuring a sustainable future. We are addressing the need for marine conservation by working in our local communities and schools to provide awareness and education on these issues, as well as contributing directly to marine conservation and research.
