If you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy good food, a relaxed drink or a family get-together while exploring Haverfordwest, The Glen might be just the spot. This welcoming pub and restaurant has become a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike, with locally sourced food, a spacious beer garden and children’s play area, alongside plenty of room for celebrations and events.
As The Glen joins the Visit Pembrokeshire family, we caught up with owner Tom Slater to find out a little more about the business, what visitors can expect – and why his favourite place in Pembrokeshire isn’t actually a place at all.
Tom, tell us a little about The Glen.
The Glen is a traditional pub and restaurant in Haverfordwest. We want it to be somewhere that feels welcoming and relaxed, whether you’re coming in for something to eat, meeting friends for a drink or getting everyone together for a celebration.
Food is a big part of what we do. We focus on good, home-cooked favourites and source our ingredients from local Welsh farmers wherever possible.
We’ve also got a selection of local ales and draught beers at the bar, so people are just as welcome to pop in for a drink, a game of pool or to watch the sport.
The Glen food
It sounds like families are a big part of The Glen?
Definitely. We want The Glen to be somewhere the whole family can enjoy.
One of the things that really helps with that is our outdoor space. We have a large beer garden and outdoor dining area, as well as a dedicated children’s play area.
It means parents can settle down for some food or a drink while the children have space to play – particularly when the Pembrokeshire weather is behaving itself!

What can visitors expect from the food?
We like to keep things relaxed and focus on doing familiar favourites really well.
There’s plenty of choice whether you’re joining us for a family meal, a Sunday roast or just something casual, and we’re lucky to have some fantastic Welsh produce available to us.
Ultimately, we want people to leave having had good food, friendly service and an enjoyable time.
The Glen is also a venue for celebrations. Tell us a little about that side of the business.
We have several different spaces available, so we can host everything from smaller gatherings to bigger celebrations.
Birthdays, weddings, family occasions and other events are a big part of what we do. We love seeing The Glen full of people getting together and celebrating something special.
That community side of the business is really important to us.
Is there anything happening behind the scenes that people might not know about?
There is!
We’re actually starting a new venture at The Glen, but we’re keeping the details under wraps for now. We can’t say too much yet, so you’ll just have to keep your eyes peeled…
We always ask our members for their favourite place or hidden gem in Pembrokeshire. What’s yours?
For me, it’s not really about one particular place. My favourite place in Pembrokeshire is anywhere I go with my daughter.
There are so many great places to explore across the county, but getting to experience them together is what makes them special.
