Pwllgwaelod beach

Pwllgwaelod beach

A small cove of dark sand and shingle looking out across the bay to Fishguard.

There are low rocks on both sides to clamber over and numerous rock pools. Very handy for launching small boats and canoes.

You can walk along the ‘valley’ path to Cwm yr Eglwys on the other side of Dinas ‘island’.

If you’re planning to visit, check out the tide times to make sure you’ve plenty of beach to play on and that you don’t get cut off by the incoming tide!

What's at Pwllgwaelod beach?

Concrete ramp: 1:8 to 1:6 for 16 metres.

There is an easy access walk from Pwllgwaelod to Cwm yr Eglwys via a wooded valley. Cwm y Eglwys is also an accessible beach.

At the beach head and by the pub.

Toilets and slipway.

On shore facilities

The Sailors Safety pub has fabulous views looking across the bay to Fishguard and it is said that Dylan Thomas was known to visit on occasions! The nearby village of Dinas provides a shop, cafe, and a pub. Newport has a wider range of amenities. A good choice of hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses, caravan and camping sites can be found in the area.
