Ynglŷn â St Dogmaels Local Producers Market
St Dogmaels local producers market is this year’s winners of the BBC Food and Farming Awards – Best Market 2016.
Every Tuesday morning from 9am – 1pm, the market runs all year around providing a valued service for the residents of the village, but draws customers from far and wide. Also voted one of the world’s most picturesque markets by Waitrose magazine, this small weekly market under the ruins of St Dogmaels Abbey overlooks the Mill pond and the working water mill. The bread made from the stone ground flour is actually sold in the market.
The dedicated stallholders can tell you all about their produce, you won’t find fresher food, with less food miles, unless it’s home grown! There are usually around 12 – 15 stall holders selling a selection of locally produced meats, longhorn beef, lamb and mutton from Carn Edward in the Gwaun Valley, cured meats from Gwallia and Cwm Charcuterie, seasonal locally caught fish and shellfish from Cardigan Bay Fish, freshly baked bread from Y Felin, local cheeses from Caws Cenarth and Cothi Valley & eggs.
Glorious colour provided by locally grown flowers from Emma Powell and Our Plants, and seasonal vegetables from Blaencamel and Over the Rainbow.
Delicious pies and pastries by Cothi Valley’s Lynn and sweet treats for all diets from Kate at Piece of Cake, handmade jams and chutneys from locally sourced ingredients at Foxhill Farm and condiments (Toloja and Cwrtau Bach) plus beers and cider.
Honey and natural remedies using bee products are available from Beelief Botanics. There’s usually a few local craft sellers and often live music. You can get a coffee or even some lunch there at the Coach House Café.
