Picton Castle & Gardens is a unique 14th-century castle set within a 50-acre Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden at the heart of Pembrokeshire. Open all year round, seven days a week.

Discover Picton Castle’s medieval origins and gorgeously decorated Georgian interiors, fully furnished with original art and antiques. Step inside to explore one of the earliest circular libraries in the country, the magnificent great hall, and the sumptuous regency wing.

Wander through the beautiful Walled Garden and explore natural habitats in our ancient woodlands and sweeping meadows, set within a 50-acre Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden. Our gardens are home to a nationally important collection of ferns and an impressive array of wildlife, including rare bats, slow worms, hedgehogs, and a variety of birds and insects.

Children can explore the Jungle Boardwalk and journey through exotic plants, wander through the maze, then let their imagination run wild at our Adventure Playground. They can also enjoy free trails around the gardens, activities in the family room, geocaching, and summer lawn games.

After working up an appetite exploring the castle and gardens, treat yourself to a range of hot and cold meals, homemade cakes, light snacks, and ice cream at Maria’s Courtyard Restaurant, serving a combination of Spanish and Welsh food.

Key Information

The castle and gardens are open every day all year. Admission includes entry to the castle and lasts for 7 days.

The gardens open from 10am

The castle opens at 1.30pm

Visitors can explore the caste at their own leisure. You can see all the principal rooms on the ground floor, the kitchens and medieval Undercroft. Volunteer room stewards are on hand to help and are very knowledgeable about the castle and its history.

For those who wish to learn more, guided tours are available most days but please check before arrival. Guided tours are a small additional charge (£5 for adults and £4 per child). The tour includes a visit to the chapel which cannot otherwise be visited. Free guided tours are available on Mondays (excluding the school holidays).

Last entry at 4pm.

Dogs on leads welcome throughout the gardens, exhibitions, castle, family room and restaurant (lower part). Only assistance dogs are allowed in the castle.
Family friendly with an adventure play ground, free seasonal trails and activities.
Castle, restaurant and majority of the castle is accessible to those with restricted mobility.
We have 4 all-terrain wheelchairs for visitors to use. We also have a wheelchair in the castle for visitors convenience.

Directions:

From Haverfordwest: Travel east on the A40 for approximately 4 miles. Turn right towards The Rhos and Picton Castle. At the village turn right. After 1 mile turn left into the car park.
From Narberth: Travel west on the A40 towards Haverfordwest. After the Canaston Bridge roundabout travel approximately 3 miles. Turn left follwoing signs for The Rhos and Picton Castle. At the village turn left. After approximately 1 mile turn left into the car park

Accessibility

Approximately 65% of the gardens are accessible to wheelchairs. On these paths the surface is hard pressed gravel. All of the most popular areas of the garden such as the Walled Garden, Jungle garden, Courtyard, the Blue Bell woods and area around the castle are wheelchair accessible. The outer areas of the gardens are less suitable, as these areas are mostly still on 19th century path systems with coarser surfaces and some steps.

Disabled parking is close to the entrance from the car park.

There are two disabled toilets on site close to the Restaurant and one in the gardens

There are four all terrain wheelchairs on site free for visitors use.

In the castle the principal rooms to view are fully accessible to both wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs. Please be aware that the accessibility access to the castle includes quite a steep slope up to the front door. The bedrooms and chapel are inaccessible to wheelchairs. Unfortunately, mobility scooters are not allowed in the castle (due to the configuration of the building) without making a prior arrangement. Please contact us before your visit to arrange. There is a wheelchair in the castle for visitors to borrow.Assistance dogs are welcome inside the castle (please ensure they are wearing their working harness).

Registered Carers are not charged admission when accompanying the person they care for. We do ask for careers ID, such as those available through your local Council or the Access scheme or the NHS. We do not accept Blue Badges.
