Griffin Inn

About Griffin Inn

Roaring log fires in the winter and eating out on the alfresco terrace in the summer enjoying the spectacular sea views whilst watching a selection of fresh seafood en route from the Haven straight to your plate a few hours later – there is quite simply no better place to enjoy your locally caught seafood!

Much of the fresh local seafood, is caught in the Haven by local fishermen making for a bursting seafood specials board to suit all. The Griffin offers a vast range of simple fresh seafood dishes from mackerel to turbot, razor clams to scallops, crab to lobster or other treasures the local sea throws at them.

Our fish is mostly steamed with simply seasoning.
“Fresh produce, simple cooking, fabulous flavour.”

The deliberately informal unpretentious atmosphere and fabulous friendly service only add to the atmosphere, offering a memorable eating experience.

From the moment you step inside, you will feel like you belong…

The Griffin has been a ‘cwtch’ for the Dale community for 300 years. In Welsh, the word ‘cwtch’ means to give someone a safe place. And that’s precisely what we do. We are a safe, honest home-from-home where you can rest awhile, be yourself, and gather with loved ones whilst enjoying a decent drink and meal. From the moment you step inside, you will feel like you belong: whoever you are and wherever you come from. Come in and see for yourself. We promise, there’s an ocean of warmth waiting!

300 years is a long time to be tucked up behind a sea wall, on the mouth of the Milford Haven waterway. The wind, the rain, the ocean and the snow have done their worst and every new century has brought its challenges. But despite it all, our doors have stayed open. We are the last pub standing in this small Pembrokeshire community where once there were 15 others. Our awards and our popularity are proof that we’ve never forgotten what it takes to make a person feel at home: real food, real ale and a real welcome.

At the helm, Simon and Sian

In 2010, current owners – Simon and Sian – took over the Griffin. Moving from the city back to their home roots with their two children for a lifestyle change. Dale village has a special place in their hearts and has done for many years.

Simon used to come to Dale as a child, visiting his grandfather whilst Sian’s links go even deeper. Her parents ran the Griffin themselves for many years in the ’90s.

10 years on from originally practicing architecture, Simon became known as the Accidental Chef and has recently been named Pub Chef of the Year 2021. Over the years The Griffin team have won many accolades for their seafood & service.

The restaurant, where the horizon washes in through glass walls

With its floor-to-ceiling glass walls, our modern restaurant spills wonderful views of the Pembrokeshire coast inside, so you can watch the shore and boats whatever the weather.

In spring and summer, the doors open out onto a small patio where you can eat and drink in the warmth of the sunshine as the rest of the world sails by. As autumn and winter creep in, we light the log burner bringing a flicker of heat to warm your chatter as the tide turns in the bay.

The rooftop terrace, where the sea views are no longer just for seabirds

Take a seat on our rooftop terrace, above the restaurant, and drink in the views of the estuary. Whether you’re here for our delicious, traditional home-cooked dishes, or you’re looking to try the seafood specials with one of our unique sauces, you can be sure your food will come with a fresh sea breeze and the sounds of the coast ebbing and flowing around you.

If you’ve arrived by boat, our roof terrace is the perfect place to keep an eye on your boat or just people watch as they play about with theirs…
