The Bug Farm is an innovative and unique research centre and visitor attraction, farm and nature reserve run by ecologist Dr Sarah Beynon and her team. The focus on wildlife conservation and sustainable farming and food of the future spans the site.
Meet giant invertebrates from all over the world in the purpose-built Tropical Bug Zoo and fill your mind with fascinating facts in the incredible Bug Museum, which is home to an insect farming exhibition. Take part in an additional Up-Close Meet the Bugs session (advance booking recommended) to get up close and personal to some of the invertebrates and keep an eye on the website and social media for additional workshops and events and ever-changing exhibitions in the Art Gallery.
A brand new Nature Recovery Centre explores our relationship with farming, food and nature in the past, present and future and is jam-packed full of take-away ideas of how you can help nature in your daily lives. The Nature Recovery Centre is also home to the Pembrokeshire Farming History Museum collection based on Dr Sarah Beynon's late father's farming memoirs showcases farming life through the ages.
The beautiful, tranquil 1km Farm Trail is a space to appreciate local wildlife at its best. The meandering walk explores new woodland, wildflower meadows, wetland and arable crops, showcasing the farm's research and nature recovery projects, and you may meet some of the farm animals on your walk. Younger visitors can take part in a Pollinator Trail and a must-see is the farm's exquisite wildlife watching hide. pop into the Walled garden before you go to be inspired how you can garden for nature.
Onsite, award-winning cafe Grub Kitchen is run by Sarah's husband, chef Andy Holcroft. It is the UK’s first edible insect restaurant, with plenty of non-insect dishes available too. Grub Kitchen is currently the only place in the UK that you can eat VEXo - the innovative insect and plant based mince developed by Sarah and Andy as part of their sister business Bug Farm Foods. And you must try one of their Cricket Cookies, with 20 crickets in each cookie! Andy's food, with or without insects, is delicious, packed full of flavour and supports sustainable farming practices and local growers.
There really is something at The Bug Farm for everyone, whatever your age or interest and whatever the weather.
The Bug Farm is largely accessible for wheelchairs, with a tarmac car park and flat or ramped access to all buildings.
