Who are you and what do you do?

Hi my name is Kerry and I moved to Saundersfoot 4 years ago with my 2 wonderful children, after a lifetime of visiting Pembrokeshire and saying ' one day I will live here' I finally made the leap and have not looked back.

Having settled in, I decided it was time to start a wellness business and founded Hwyl Outdoor Sauna ( originally under the branding Sea and Steam).

I have put my years of hospitality living and working on super yachts, to good use and created a welcoming space, where people can come and enjoy a 25 or 50 minute sauna session with incredible views over the beach and bay beyond.

Is this the same sauna as Sea & Steam?

Yes, this is the same physical sauna as Sea and Steam. However after going solo and restructuring the business I decided to-rebrand as Hwyl to reflect the Welsh setting and very special atmosphere created in the sauna, where each and every sauna session create their very own alchemy.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

I always say I have the best job in the world, as I just deal with happy people all day. Happy people arrive and then leave happier. I adore being in the centre of the village and part of the daily life within Saundersfoot and the view is pretty amazing! 3 best bits... but too close to call.

How did the Saundersfoot shower idea come about and how have you made this happen?

Having opened the sauna, I was often asked where the closest shower was. It seemed crazy to have to say the closest one was at Coppet hall. Saundersfoot beach is used by swimmers year round and the summer sees huge amounts of people enjoying the beach and sea, many of whom would love to rinse off. When I spotted a weather proofing fund that would pay for 75% of the installation costs I went for it, applied for planning and held my breath. Timelines were incredibly tight, but thank you to a community effort and the very hard work of Simon Fussell and son the project can in on time and under budget!

What would your ideal day be as a Pembrokeshire visitor?

I love exploring around Pembrokeshire. We are so spoilt for choice. So an adventure with a good walk, enjoying amazing views with a good pub or lovely restaurant at the end of the day would probably be my ideal day. That said, a tour around an art trail or some beautiful art galleries may just sway me!

How do visitors and locals’ book Hwyl Sauna?

The best way to book Hwyl is to visit the website www.Hwyl-sauna.co.uk Alternatively if you are in Saundersfoot you can pop down to the booking hut and we can get you all booked in.
