Quay Street Cottages

Ynglŷn â Quay Street Cottages

Whatever you are looking for in a holiday, Pembrokeshire has something to offer: our major music festivals, spectacular walks along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path and in the National Park, boating and sailing, birdwatching, gourmet food and drink, short courses, adventure activities or simply the original bucket-and-spade experience on glorious sandy beaches.

We really love these cottages for our own family holidays and, having enjoyed many years of fun and tranquillity here, we can offer you plenty of ideas on how to make the most of your stay.  The main attraction for children coming to these cottages is the opportunity to spend hours catching crabs on the slipway just outside. Unofficial competitions are run within families and with neighbours, for who can catch the biggest crab or the largest number, as well as more official events run by local organisations on high days and holidays. Grown ups make do with putting the garden chairs out at the front on the quay, opening a bottle of wine and watching the world go by. With the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path a minute from the cottage, there is so much to do within walking distance, not to mention further afield, that most people have to come back again to try something new next time!

The shops, cinema, Tourist Information Centre, pubs, cafes and restaurants of Fishguard are a brisk fifteen minute walk away. Market Day is on Thursday and the popular Farmers Market runs throughout the year on Saturday morning, both held in the Town Hall on the main Square. Less than five minutes walk away is The Ship Inn in Lower Town, the source of a good pint and much local colour and character, while along the quay is Fishguard Bay Yacht Club and, in the spring and summer months, The Cafe on the Quay, serving light lunches and teas.

Let us know if you are planning to travel by train or coach as we can collect you from the station, and if you are coming from overseas, or if you have an elderly or disabled person in your party, there may be other ways we can help.

Whatever your needs, we will give you a warm welcome!

Prices include bedlinen, handtowels & tea towels but please bring your own bath and beach towels.

(Towel hire is available through Wash Day Laundry, Newport 01239 820 820)

A non-refundable deposit of £100 is required to secure your booking with the balance 6 weeks before your booked visit.

Changeover day is Friday, check out by 10am, check in after 4pm.  However, we are happy to be flexible for out-of-season breaks.

Entering through the front porch, there are two big rooms either side of the hall. To the left is the sitting room, furnished with two sofas and an easy chair, bookshelves with an eclectic collection of reading matter, Free Sat TV and DVD Player and a wood burning stove.

To the right of the hall is the kitchen/dining room. Here there is a huge “chimney fawr” with wood burning stove, free WiFi and a bookcase full of yet more books, games and jigsaws for those occasional wet days!   The dining table seats 8+.   The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with dishwasher, larder fridge, freezer, microwave, and a dual fuel cooker (double electric oven and six ring gas hob). There is ample glassware, crockery, cutlery, and kitchenware to feed twelve people.

At the back of the cottage is a small wet room with loo, shower and washbasin and a large utility room with washing machine, an extra fridge/freezer, a big sink and the central heating boiler and controls.

The small yard outside at the back catches the morning sun, wonderful for those summer breakfast times. It’s also an ideal storage spot for kayaks and small dinghies.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a big bathroom, with toilet, bath, washbasin, a large shower and an excellent airing cupboard.  All bedrooms have harbour views. The main bedroom has a double bed, plenty of cupboard space, a walk in wardrobe and a wash basin. The middle bedroom above the front door is tiny but has a three foot single bed. The third bedroom has twin beds, (which can be put together as a super-king with advanced notice!) and a large chest of drawers.

We have had guests who are wheelchair users and find this cottage very satisfactory as they can sleep downstairs in the back of the sitting room.

No 37 Quay Street

The sitting room has two comfy sofas, a wooden floor with a warm rug, coffee table and a lovely open fireplace – also with Free Sat TV and a DVD player.   The dining room kitchen has a long, extendable table which can seat 12 or more people. An easy chair, free WiFi, well stocked bookshelves and an excellent wood burner (which heats the bathroom radiator and towel rail) make this just the spot for the one who doesn’t want to watch the television!

The fitted kitchen is well equipped with cookware, crockery and cutlery for up to twelve people, alongside a larder fridge, freezer, microwave and dual fuel four hob cooker. At the back of the cottage is a shower, toilet and small washbasin, also a useful space for outdoor gear and dog beds, the recycling bins and washing machine.

Up the stairs, with a lovely old wooden banister rail around the landing, are three harbour-facing bedrooms – one with a king-sized bed, the tiny “pink” room with a 2’6″ bed and the third room with three single beds. The two divans in this room can be made into a super King on request. The good sized bathroom has a large separate shower, a bath, toilet and washbasin.

There are two pulley airers, one on the landing and one in the dining area, which make up for the lack of an effective airing cupboard.

No 37 is amply heated by night store radiators, an open fire and a wood burner.
