About Coastal Foraging
Craig takes walks along the coasts of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and finds ingredients to cook up a feast right there and then – proving there are rich culinary pickings on the beach, from mussels to plants and crabs.

Classic Course: Beach and rocky shore: Rockpool safari, various shellfish, sea vegetables, crustaceans
- Tidal mudflats and estuaries: Clams, cockles, oysters, sea vegetables including marsh samphire
- Sand Dunes system (mostly educational): cockles, clams, specialist sand dune plants like Sea Holly (protected)
We will meet at the arranged time and location, and set out the timetable for the day ahead. We will then discuss in detail, safety, tides, legal aspects and legislation, points of interest (geography, geology and history etc.), followed by a brief Q&A session.
For the next few hours, we will forage for our wild delicacies. If circumstance permit, we’ll endeavour to cook some of our discoveries so that you can appreciate the flavours of the coast.
Be prepared: On arrival, please ensure that you are dressed for prevailing weather conditions, Sunscreen and robust footwear, refreshments. A strong bag to carry foraged items (if required), and also a bag for any litter you may have or may find. Please remember that we will be at our location for approximately 4 hours or more. Public conveniences are not available at some locations. A certain degree of fitness is required as a course could entail walking up to 4 miles in total. Extreme Low Tide Course: We are more likely to find crustaceans such as edible crabs and prawns, and if extremely lucky, potentially a lobster. If you’re really lucky, you may even meet an octopus. We may encounter soft corals, a greater variety of sponges, many more species of anemone, and other organisms such as sea squirts. We will encounter various species of seaweed such as kelps and potentially beautiful Blue-rayed limpets.
