Ynglŷn â Watamu

This large country cottage is in an idyllic setting just 2.3 miles from Newport in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Watamu at Glasfryn Cottages is a luxury family home with staggering views of Carningli (Mountain of Angels) and the surrounding countryside.

Set in 4 acres of grounds just 2.6 miles from the sea, with a standing stone and a bluebell meadow, Glasfryn Cottages are the perfect place to relax, unwind and reconnect with family and friends. With space, tranquillity and unspoilt countryside, this is a paradise for children, pets and wildlife enthusiasts.

The beautifully furnished detached house features an eclectic mix of modern and antique pieces, accented with traditional Welsh tapestry. Enjoy sleeping in the romantic cream French bedroom, full of light and very spacious. Or perhaps you’d prefer the Thai four-poster bed with fresh white linen and net drapes. The open plan attic bedroom has a king size bed, cosy with rich red Welsh blankets to ensure a good night’s sleep, and the pastel blue and pink twin bedroom is very comfortable and relaxing.

The spacious shaker-style kitchen and dining room has oak floors and a wood-burning stove. It’s a wonderful space in which to create scrumptious family meals and talk long into the night. In summer, open the double French doors and eat alfresco on the patio enjoying the stunning landscape, or pack a picnic for the children to take to the meadow.

This is an area steeped in history and rich in legends. Explore the magical Ty Canol Woods, the verdant Cwm Gwaun (Gwaun Valley), and the wild moorland slopes of the Preseli Hills. Discover ancient trails, Iron Age forts, Neolithic burial sites – and places to just stand and stare. Glasfryn Cottages is located in the hamlet of Cilgwyn in the Gwaun Valley just outside Newport.

On arrival in Newport take the last turning in the village on the right hand side just past the turning to the big beach ( which is on the left). This is a narrow lane which will take you up steeply towards the mountain.
When you get to the t junction bear left and carry on up towards the mountain. Follow this road for about 2 miles. It will take you up past some houses and you’ll see the mountain to your right.
Keep going until the road gradually starts to slope down.
You will come to a very steep hill down with a sharp bend to the right that takes you down to the candle workshop on your right and a small stone bridge directly ahead.
Continue over the bridge and up the other side.
Continue until you come to a small lane on your left signposted Nevern.  If you come to the Blue stone brewery you have gone too far.
Turn left at the signpost to Nevern and Glasfryn Cottages is the first property on your left with a high blue wall fronting the road. You have arrived!

Newport and the surrounding area is served by regular rail links into Fishguard and Haverfordwest.

Local transport
National Park roaming bus services are available in Newport which follow by-way routes around the Pembrokeshire coast line.
