What’s on in December

As we roll into Christmas, Pembrokeshire will be hosting lots of Christmas markets, a feast of pantomimes and a Dylan Thomas’ film premier.

There’s a 'Christmas Pudding Dash' in Broad Haven, a ‘Man Up’ mud race in St Davids and the 'Three Amigos Bike Run' in Pembroke.

And once Christmas Day is over you can wash it all down with a Boxing Day swim in Tenby! Magic.

Monday 1st December

Monday Morning Movies

Theatr Gwaun are running ‘Monday Morning Movies’ from December through to the end of February for £5. Gone Girl (18) will be shown at 11am on Monday 1st, then it's the action thriller The Maze Runner (15) on Monday 8th. After that, each week the regular film will pop up for an extra Monday morning showing. A little treat to prove that Theatr Gwaun isn’t just for the evenings.

Tuesday 2nd December

Film & Food: Resistance Recipes

Film Director Dasa Raimanova (Resistance Recipes) will be preparing mouth-watering recipes inspired by what she learned in Palestine, followed by a screening of her film ‘Resistance Recipes’ in Newport Memorial Hall.

Making Christmas

Join local glass artist Steve Robinson for an evening workshop making your very own glass tealight panel in St Davids. A perfect stocking filler.

If you can't make Steve's event, don't worry, there are plenty of other workshops happening across the county to help you make that unique Christmas gift

Friday 5thDecember

Last Christmas

The Torch Theatre kicks off the Christmas season with a play fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe. This funny, heartbreaking and, ultimately, uplifting one-man show from Matthew Bulgo will make you laugh, cry and leave the theatre wanting to call your loved ones. Tickets available from Torch Theatre 

Friday 5th – Sunday 7th December

St Nicholas Market

The turning on of the Christmas lights in Saundersfoot is a firm favourite with families, and with celebrity chefs to inspire your Christmas treating, live music and even a choir, this is a market not to be missed.


Lift your spirits with some serious feel-good factor as the depths of winter approach. Seasoned performers Henry Sears and George Whitfield produce an exciting, wide ranging sound that promises to leave no musical stone unturned at the Small World Theatre, Cardigan.

Saturday 6thDecember

Christmas Market

With so many fantastic artisans in and around St. Davids, Oriel y Parc market is not to be missed. Drop into the café for mulled wine and mince pies whilst the little ones visit Santa with their Christmas lists.

Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th December

A Tudor Christmas

The Tudor Merchants House in Tenby is open every Saturday and Sunday in December. Pop along to see how the merchant and his family would have celebrated Christmas.

Sunday 7th December

Christmas Market

Carew Castle is a spectacular setting for any event and its bound to be bustling. With face painting, Santa’s grotto and entry including a mince pie, you’ll be enjoying yourself before you even reach the stalls. Keep an eye out for local art, ceramics, glassware and sculpture.

Christmas Songs

Come and learn some bilingual Christmas songs with local choir leader and internationally renowned folk musician Henry Sears. There will be a space afterwards to sing more informally and enjoy some mince pies and mulled wine. Span Arts event at Bloomfield Centre, Narberth 1-5pm.

Thursday 11th December

Film Premier: Dan Y Wenallt

This summer a new cinematic adaptation of the legendary Welsh poet Dylan Thomas’ classic radio play was shot in Solva. This radically surreal and erotic Welsh-language film saw Rhys Ifans simultaneously film ‘Under Milk Wood’ in both Welsh and English. Theatr Gwaun will be one of the premier spots showing of the Welsh version this December.

The film will also be shown on S4C 27th December at 9pm (English subtitles are available)

Castle by Candlelight

Get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy a truly magical candlelit evening in the beautiful surroundings of Manorbier Castle. The Haverfordwest Male Voice Choir will be performing in the atmospheric chapel of the castle, raising funds for Keep Wales Tidy to help support communities to maintain and protect our coastline.   

Comedy Club

Headlining this month is Gavin Webster, an English stand-up who has worked with the likes of Jason Manford and Ross Noble. His critically acclaimed show at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival received 5-star reviews. Tickets available from Span Arts.

Span Arts Appetizer

Learn how to make Christmas decorations out of natural materials on this Span Arts appetizer course. Use withies and learn what plants you might have in your garden that could be used for weaving into beautiful designs.

Music: Electric Swing Circus

Ladies and Gentlemen, hold onto your hats. The circus is coming to town. The Span Arts Xmas Bonanza is back again at the Queens Hall, this year with a roaring 20s theme. Get your flapper dresses and headbands out - it’s time to party! This year’s act is none other than festival favourites The Electric Swing Circus. Tickets available from Span Arts

Saturday 13th December

Man Up! Mud Run

Time to tough up and embrace the winter with the annual ‘Man up! Mud Run’. This 10k mud and obstacle race is based at Pwllcaerog Farm, in the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The course runs for 6-miles over unforgiving land, with muddy puddles and slippery obstacles to keep your entertained. Fun to take part in, even better to watch! Race starts at noon. 

Southwood Farm Christmas Fair

Crafts, gifts and food - find finishing touches and last minute treats around this charming National Trust Victorian farm between Newgale and Roch.

3 Amigos Christmas Toy Run

If you love motorbikes head down to Pembroke Commons between 12 noon – 1pm and meet the 3 Amigos on their annual Christmas Toy Run. Every year hundreds of bikers visit Pembroke, collecting toys and donations to take to Withybush hospital children's ward. Bring a toy or just come along to meet the bikers and show your support. 

Christmas Decorations Workshop

It’s not too late to make something for Christmas! Join Elsa Sharp at Picton Castle to make your very own personalised Christmas Wreath. Or head to Narberth Museum for a chance to make a fused glass Christmas decoration with local artist Linda Norris.

Sunday 14th December

Broad Haven Christmas Pudding Run

Get this 10k Xmas Pudding Run under your belt before Christmas. Join a hardy bunch of enthusiastic runners on this 10km road run from the beautiful village of Broad Haven. All entrants will receive a Christmas pudding on finishing the run. Race starts at 1pm. Fancy dress is optional.

Tenby Santa Fun Run

If dressing up as Santa is more your style head to Tenby for the Santa dash! Starts at 12 noon outside St Mary’s Church.

Saturday 20th December

12 Tricks of Christmas

How about a little magic before Christmas? Join in the fun at Small World Theatre and learn twelve new tricks for the Christmas table that will amaze everyone. You will master mime, conjuring tricks, clowning, circus tricks and so much more… abracadabra! 

In the evening Rhosygilwen are hosting their annual Christmas concert with Cor y Wiber and Leah Marion Jones. And Picton Castle is hosting the Tempus Vocal Choir. 

20th December – 3rd January

Pantomime - Cinderella

Panto season at the Torch Theatre is bringing you Cinderella! This enchanting and enthralling adaptation of the much loved fairytale is bursting with magic, mayhem, music and plenty of fairy dust - in fact it’s a right royal show especially for you! Tickets available from Torch Theatre.

Wednesday 24th December - Christmas Eve

Sing into Christmas with Midnight Mass at St Davids Cathedral. Service starts at 11.00pm, with the First Eucharist of Christmas, Procession & Blessing of Crib. 

Friday 26th December

Tenby Boxing Day Swim

Keep the Christmas cheer rolling and get yourself down to the annual Tenby Boxing Day swim. You’ll be in the company of about 600 fancy dress dippers, all raising money for their chosen charity. If you're feeling brave take the dip yourself or join the thousands of onlookers cheering them on. Swim starts at 11:30am on Tenby’s North beach

Sunday 28th December

Twmpath @ Abercych Village Hall

The Gower All Stars and Julie Murphy are back! This wonderful family event will get your feet stomping and you’re heart singing. If you’ve never danced before you'll be guided through the steps and will soon be swept up by the evening. Starts at 7:30pm.

Monday 29th December

Pantomime - Robinson Crusoe

Aye, Aye Shipmates! Join in the fun with Span Arts this December following the tale of Crusoe, heroic captain of the Good Ship Lizzie, and his mission to seek out wondrous treasures, discover strange new lands and to boldly go where no action-packed family adventure has gone before. Performances at 2pm and 6pm. Tickets available from Span Arts.

Wednesday 31st December

New Year’s Eve

Parties, food, music and fun will be happening up and down the county this New Years Eve. Ffwrn are doing a slow-cooked meats dinner plus band on New Years Eve, while Chef Will Holland is offering a 7-course taster menu party at Coast in Saundersfoot and the Wolfscastle Country Hotel are putting on a 6-course gala dinner.
