What's on at Whitsun

May Whitsun is jam-packed with events for all the family.

Kayaking, birds of prey, children’s theatre and adventure stories are just some of the events taking place this week, so what are you waiting for? Go have some fun this Whitsun!  

Whitsun Week

The following venues have family events happening every day throughout the week, so click on the links to see what takes your fancy.

If you’re near Cilgerran there’s something happening every day at the Welsh Wildlife Centre. Try some pond dipping or a mini beast safari; what will you discover?

National Park sites across Pembrokeshire have many family events happening this Whitsun, there’s King Arthur arty afternoons at Oriel y Parc plus nature engagement workshop in the woods at Castell Henllys. In the south of the county Carew Castle takes you into medieval mayhem with treasure trails and 'Prepare for Battle' where you can make your own lance, helmet or crown. 

Dragon Days, the Merrymakers Knight School and Ghostly Tales are all happening in Pembroke Castle this week.

Meanwhile the National Trust have lots of events on their ‘Things to do before your 11 ¾ ‘ series at Colby Woodland Garden. Over on the Stackpole Estate they have an early morning lakeside wildlife walk plus beach rugby fun on Broad Haven south.

Fishguard Folk Festival

“The Fishguard Folk Festival was a joyous and vibrant celebration of folk music set against the backcloth of an historical and picturesque town. Joining in when I could add to my enjoyment. The Big Retreat Wales

The Big Retreat Wales is a festival in the heart Lawrenny village. Music, crafts, nature, food, drink, fitness, workshops and outdoor activities. Children are entertained in the ‘Marquee of Marvellous’ with Big Play, The Darwin Experience, storytelling, Creation Station, art classes plus bushcraft. Tickets are selling fast so get them from The Big Retreat Wales as soon as possible!

Wildlife watch

Join the fun at Orielton Field Centre on the 27th of May for an afternoon searching for minibeasts in our woodland! Everyone is welcome and the session is completely free. Fun begins at 2pm

Sunday 28th May

Shadow puppet workshop

Join Small World Theatre at The Lab Haverfordwest for a free Shadow Puppetry Workshop. Participants will work with skilled puppet makers and performers to create and manipulate their own shadow puppets and use them in a short devised performance.

Welsh Dragon Boast Championships

Head to Llys-y-Fran Reservoir this Whitsun, where the 4th Welsh Dragon Boat Race hits the water to raise money for Pembrokeshire charities. Local teams, with 15 members in each boat, will be racing across Llys y Fran in a traditional Dragon Boat, rowing to the sound of the drummer at the helm. What a great family day out!

Monday 29th May

Wildlife discovery tours with Preseli Venture

The tours are led by a National Trust ranger and Preseli Venture guide with a focus on exploration, wildlife spotting, and the geology and history of the area. Anyone can participate, no experience is required, so go on, jump in and join us for some really wild exploring, and discover coastal wildlife you never knew before! Booking with Preseli Venture.

Tuesday 30th May

Children’s theatre: The Pixie’s Scarf.

Soap Soup Theatre return with a theatrical treat set in the wet crags of Dartmoor. Dicky Bundle finds a treasure that opens the door to the beautiful world of The Wee Folk where he must strike a deal with the Queen of the Pixies, or lose the treasure forever. Tickets from Span Arts.

Friday 2nd June

Falconry at Manorbier Castle

Spend a day at the beautiful Manorbier Castle and enjoy the brilliant flying display from Pembrokeshire Falconry Get up close to these beautiful birds and join in the fun of the Flying Display and the chance to "Hold a bird"

Can't make it to Manorbier Castle for the falconry - Visit Pembrokeshire Falconry at Picton Castle - you'll soon be Having a Hoot! 

Saturday 3rd June

Children’s Theatre

Lighting Path will appeal to everyone aged 6 + with its beautifully crafted puppets, animation, original music score and rich visual vocabulary. This is a bilingual performance with the actors/puppets using Welsh and English. Doors open at 6:45pm. Tickets from Small World Theatre.
