Kayaking, climbing, bat walks and ghost stories are just some of the events taking place this week, so what are you waiting for? Go have some fun this Whitsun!
The following venues have family events happening every day throughout the week, so click on the links to see what takes your fancy.
If you’re near Cilgerran there’s something happening every day at the Welsh Wildlife Centre over the holidays, so well worth checking out. You can make your own cute woodland animal keyring, paint slate or even a bug hotel.
At National Park sites across Pembrokeshire there’s all sorts of family events happening this Whitsun, from evening bat walks and crafty afternoons at Oriel y Parc to Iron Age discovery days at Castell Henllys. In the South of the county Carew Castle take you into the medieval mayhem with treasure trails and falconry displays.
Ghost story nights, falconry displays, Dragon Days and the Merrymakers Knight School are all happening in Pembroke Castle this week.
Meanwhile the National Trust have lots of events on their ‘Things to do before your 11 ¾ ‘ series. Kayaking and climbing can be found at Stackpole Estate while Saturday morning runs are over at Colby Woodland Garden.
Saturday 23rd May
The Really Wild Food Festival is back in a new venue at Celtic Camping, near Abberiddi. A stunning location greets festival goers this year, with wild food talks, walks and cookery demonstrations. The Really Wild Mud Race takes place at noon, Saturday, and there’s something for all the family to get stuck into. Gates open at 10am.

This weekend also marks the start of the St Davids Cathedral Festival and Fishguard Folk Festival.
Sunday 24th May - Welsh Dragon Boat Championship
Head to Llys-y-Fran Reservoir this Whitsun, where the Welsh Dragon Boat Race hits the water to raise money for Pembrokeshire charities.
Local teams, with 17 members in each boat, will be racing across Llys y Fran in a traditional Dragon Boat, rowing to the sound of the drummer at the helm. What a great family day out!
Monday 25th May - Kayaking Monday
Ever fancied kayaking out of Stackpole Quay? Join the Stackpole Estate National Trust’s guided trips on offer every day over Whitsun and enjoy an action-packed day out experiencing Pembrokeshire from a completely new angle.
Or join a family friendly kayaking tour with Preseli Venture to explore the pristine coastline on the beautiful North Pembrokeshire coast. Join the National Trust’s paddling ranger and get closer to the amazing wildlife, geology and history of the area.
Tuesday 26th May - Skomer Island
Budding photographers can join professional Welsh photographer Andy Davies for an unforgettable day on Skomer Island learning how to use your camera to capture the stunning landscapes and rich wildlife. Trips go every week all summer.
Small World theatre presents the story of Lord Rhys and Nest, the infamous princess who was famed for her beauty and many suitors. This bawdy romp through history and Nest’s life is beautifully told through puppetry. Its hilarious, racy content is fun for all the family. Shows at 12 & 2pm.
Meet Sheherazade, the greatest storyteller of them all. She has a feast of adventures and fantasies to tell, involving genies, villains, heroes and princesses. Visit old favourites, like Aladdin, Ali Baba and the Little Beggar, with lots of characters, costumes, dance, puppets and fun. For children aged 5+. Starts at 2pm. Tickets and enquiries to Span Arts
Wednesday 27th May
Return to the Iron Age with Merrin and find your inner Celt! Castell Henllys Iron Age Village comes alive with ancient arts and crafts. A "have-a-go" day for all the family with activities galore, from face painting to using a sling or bush-craft.
The Big Climb
Join the Stackpole Estate National Trust’s team as they bring the old Stackpole Quay Quarry back to life with their big climb challenge. If you've got a head for heights then why not join our expert guides and scale the walls of the disused quarry. It'll be an experience to remember.
Thursday 28th May
Black Mountains Falconry returns to Pembroke Castle and are always a big crowd pleaser. You’ll see falcons, owls, buzzards and hawks, together with a fantastic flying demonstration that includes audience participation.
Friday 29th May
Explore Castell Henllys' wild places with a resident guide or have a go at creating your own crafts using nettle. Yes, nettles! Friday is nettle day, where you can learn all about the beauty of nettles in tea, soup and even making string!
Join the team at Stackpole National Trust for their stellar sunset and dark skies walk. Starting at Broadhaven South, with a sunset stroll across the beach, then into Warren woods looking for wildlife. A ramble along the lakes takes you back to the car park where, weather permitting, you'll watch the stars and admire the constellations. Hot snack and a cuppa included.
