May Whitsun week is jam-packed with events for all the family. Don’t miss the Welsh Dragon Boat races at Llys y Fran, a bug hunt with Dr Beynon or you’re chance to complete the National Trust’s ’50 things to do before your 11¾’.

Saturday 24th May

50 Things to do before you're 11¾ - Tick ‘create some wild art’ off your list and join wild artist Tina Cunningham at Colby Woodland Garden to make your very own wild art.

Pembroke Dock Raptors are at Carew Castle all day, offering flying demonstrations and a chance to get up close and personal with their magnificent birds of prey.

The Knights of Longshanks will be living at Pembroke Castle all weekend, transporting you back to the 13th Century to see how they lived, cooked and fought.

Sunday 25th May

A new spectacle is heading to Llys-y-Fran Reservoir this Whitsun, as the Welsh Dragon Boat Championship hits the water to raise money for the Noah’s Ark Appeal and Pembrokeshire’s Paul Sartori Foundation.

20 teams, with 17 members in each boat, will be racing across Llys y Fran in a traditional Dragon Boat, rowing to the sound of the drummer at the helm. What a great family day out!

Join a family friendly kayaking tour with Preseli Venture to explore the pristine coastline on the beautiful North Pembrokeshire coast. The National Trust’s paddling ranger will get you closer to the amazing wildlife, geology and history of the area.

Monday 26th May

Calling all Celts! Join the local Demetae tribe at Castell Henllys as they welcome the summer with a Beltane festival. The day will be filled with activities, stories & face painting and end with the wicker man burn, a celebration of fire to welcome the summer.

Pant Glas Birds of Prey will be offering a fascinating afternoon of both observation and handling of a variety of birds of prey including amazing owls, sparrow and Harris hawks at the Welsh Wildlife Centre in Cilgerran.

Magical storytelling, stunning puppets, colourful characters make up the ‘Ugly Duckling’ Span Arts performance in Narberth. A delightful musical score make this a must-see show for little ones and their families. Includes a special ‘meet the puppets’ session after the show.

Tuesday 27th May

Join Tamsin Young at Welsh Wildlife Centre in Cilgerran, for an empowering afternoon of creative bush craft. Learn how to use tools to make items such as greenwood pencils and elderberry tribal wear!

Black Mountains Falconry returns to Pembroke Castle and are always a big crowd pleaser. You’ll see falcons, owls, buzzards and hawks, together with a fantastic flying demonstration that includes audience participation.

The Darwin Centre are offering pond dipping at Hilton Court Gardens - on their last dip they caught an array of creatures including water scorpions and dragonfly nymphs, who knows what YOU could discover this time?  Numbers are limited, so pre booking is essential - phone 01437 753196 to book your place.

Wednesday 28th May

Return to the Iron Age with Merrin and find your inner Celt! Merrin needs strong & willing slaves to help with her chores and to defend the fort! Cook in a Celtic kitchen, help build a new roundhouse or join the ranks of trainee warriors.

Don’t be late for a very important date at Picton Castle ‘Alice in Wonderland’ day. Join in the fun of with puppet making, storytelling on the new Jungle Adventure Boardwalk and fancy dress photo shoot.

Thursday 29th May

If you like bugs then join Oriel y Parc’s 1-1½ hour Bug Hunt, led by entomologist and TV presenter Dr Sarah Beynon from Dr Beynon's Bug Farm. It is based in and around the grounds of Oriel y Parc and is particularly suited for families.

Our band of Merrymakers Knight Trainers, led by Sir Benfro of Pembroke Castle, will take you through your paces marching in the Merrymakers Procession, learning how to act knightly and sword skills.

Friday 30th May

There's nothing quite like fresh air, exercise and family time. Join the team at Stackpole National Trust and head into the great outdoors to create memories that will last a lifetime on a '50 Things to do before you're 11¾' event.

Explore Castell Henllys' wild places with a resident guide or listen to a story about the spirits that look after the woods, then have a go at creating your own woodland sprites from natural materials.
