What's on in January

After all the excitement of Christmas and New Year, January usually brings the blues but far from it in Pembrokeshire. We’ve got comedy, jazz, 5k runs, workshops and foraging. Plenty to raise the spirits.

Thursday 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th January

Wild Foraging

Oriel y Parc Visitor Centre and Landscape Gallery host a gentle two hour walk along some of St David's ancient green lanes and down to the coast. Discover your 'inner forager' and learn how to identify and collect wild ingredients, find out how they were used historically and how you can incorporate them into your cooking! £10 per person.

Saturday 10th January

Stand up comedy workshop

If you have ever considered stand-up, but get cold sweats at the thought, or just fancy exploring and experimenting with your own sense of humour then this workshop is for you. Span Arts bring you this free Art Appetisers workshop at two locations in Pembrokeshire.

Clarbeston Road Hall: 10.30am - 1pm

Saturday 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st January

5K Park Run

Join in the healthy fun of the Colby park run. It’s free and inclusive. Every Saturday at 9am runners set off on a 5K run around the gardens. Arrive by 8.30 at Colby Woodland Gardens near Amroth.

Digital Photography at National Trust Colby Woodland Gardens

A two hour guided workshop that shows you how to get the best from your digital camera, learn new techniques and then view them back at the Bothy workshop. Get some healthy fresh air in to the bargain too. 11am to 1pm. Booking essential. 01834 811885

Thursday 15th January

The Comedy Club at The Queens Hall, Narberth

Span Arts’ Comedy Club is back for 2015 ready to fill your year with laughter! First headliner of the year is Rob Deering, the UK’s foremost guitar-wielding, loop-layering stand-up comedian. Deering was the host and writer of three series of Out to Lunch on BBC Radio 2. He also hosted 99 Things to Do Before You Die on Channel 5. Doors open 7:15pm. Starts 8pm.

Friday 16th  - Thursday 29th January

Mwldan Film Festival, Theatre Mwldan Cardigan.

The best way to enjoy January, the annual film festival at the Mwldan is the perfect excuse to meet up with friends and enjoy a good film …. or three. Everything from the 1929 Drifters, Kevin Allen’s adaptation of Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood – Dan Y Wenallt to Disney’s Frozen sing-a-long.

Saturday 17th January

Paper Theatre

Another creative, and free,  Art Appetisers workshop from Span Arts. Turn a cardboard box into a beautiful paper theatre. With help and guidance from Feral Theatre's Emily Laurens this is the perfect workshop for families as people of different ages can work on different aspects of the theatre. Think extravagant gold arches, scenery, characters and even lighting!

Wednesday 21st January

SpanJazz at The Dingle Club, Narberth

Tonight featuring Henry Lowther & The John Gibbon Trio. In a career lasting more than five decades, trumpeter Henry Lowther has shown himself to be one of the most versatile performers in British jazz. Starts 8pm

Friday 23rd January

Aquarian Party at Queens Hall, Narberth

With feet-stomping, ceiling-banging beats Cut La Vis is a major player in the fast-growing mash up scene. Combining classical Jamaican rhythms, hip hop beats and skanking, bass-heavy grooves, scratched and blended with finely- toned turntablism; Cut La Vis’s unique and original style have become floor-fillers worldwide.

Saturday 24th January

Craft workshop with Seascape Curiosities

Based at the National Trust’s Colby Woodland Garden use this beautiful garden  to create your own nature inspired prints on fabrics. Go out with your tutor around Colby foraging and searching for inspiration in nature. All abilities are welcome. We will experiment and play to create your own original Colby Garden prints and patterns for you to take home on canvas shopping bags, paper and other fabrics. 11am to 1pm.
