  Directions to Valley View Cottages (SA37 0HH)

Approaching from the South (M4)

From the end of the M4, follow the A48 to Carmarthen. If you wish to take a diversion off of the A48 to avoid holiday traffic (particularly during school holidays), look out for a turning right 4 miles before Carmarthen, onto the B4300, signposted for Nantycaws and the Police headquarters.  Follow this road for the 4 miles into Carmarthen. Turn right at the first roundabout onto the A40.  Continue with directions from *

At Carmarthen, turn right at first roundabout onto A40, straight over second roundabout.  * Turn left at next roundabout onto A485 (following signs for West Wales Hospital). Left again at next roundabout and past the hospital on your left. Right at next roundabout onto A484, following signs for Newcastle Emlyn.

Follow the A484 all the way to Newcastle Emlyn (takes about 30 minutes). At Newcastle Emlyn stay on the A484 for approx. a further 3 miles until you reach Cenarth. Take the left turning on to the B4332 (signposted to Boncath) and proceed for about 2 miles through Abercych and round sharp left hand bend and up the hill. Just before the village of New Chapel turn right at the turning signposted Cilgerran 3 miles. After about 200 yards turn right onto our track (there is a sign for ‘Valley View Cottages’). Follow the track all the way down (straight on at the fork, not round to the left).

 

 

Approaching from the North (Aberystwyth)

 

From Aberystwyth, follow the A487 to Aberaeron.

Continue on the A487 until you reach Cardigan.  At the roundabout take the first exit onto the A484.  After 3 miles you come to the village of Llechryd.  Go through the village and take the right hand turning over the bridge.  Follow this road up the hill and continue for approx. 1.5 miles.  Take the left hand turn signposted to Newchapel.  After about 1.5 miles turn left onto our track (there is a sign for ‘Valley View Cottages’). Follow the track all the way down (straight on at the fork, not round to the left).

Approaching from Fishguard

Head out of Fishguard on the A487 eastwards, heading towards Newport.  Continue on this road for approximately 15 minutes until you reach the village of Eglwyswrw.  In the village turn right onto the B4332 heading towards Cenarth.  Go along this road until you reach a T – junction.  Turn right and then immediately left heading towards Boncath.  Go through the village of Boncath and carry on this road until you reach New Chapel (approx. 2 miles).  Go through the village of New Chapel and just outside of the village turn left, signposted Cilgerran 3 miles.  After about 200 yards turn right onto our track (there is a sign for ‘Valley View Cottages’). Follow the track all the way down (straight on at the fork, not round to the left).

Valley View Cottages: Traditional Wales with modern convenience.

We’ve named our cottages for the spectacular views of the West Wales countryside: farmland, woodlands and the famous River Teifi Valley.

Each of our four cottages is tastefully converted from 200-year old stone barns for year-round comfort and modern fixtures and appliances. The smallest cottage accommodates 2 people, and the largest accommodates six. (In total, we can accommodate 14 adults plus infants.) Each cottage has a private enclosed garden with patio, garden furniture, BBQ, and there is a secure play area for children.

We are located in the small village of Newchapel, close to the border of Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion in North Pembrokeshire. The rolling green hills are intersected by many streams and rivers—a peaceful landscape perfect for walking, cycling, or just relaxing. In addition, we are an easy distance from many great places to visit:

  • The famous Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion Coast Paths.
  • Beautiful beaches at Mwnt, Aberporth and Poppit Sands.
  • Preseli Mountains, home of the Stonehenge blue stones, and dotted with ancient burial mounds and standing stones
  • Colourful market towns of Cardigan and Newcastle Emyln.
  •  Norman castles, museums, theme parks, and wildlife centres, to name a few.

WOODPECKER BARN ACCESS STATEMENT

APPROACH

  • Valley View Cottages signage is prominent at the driveway entrance from the road
  • The driveway/track is well made of concrete and stone leading to the car park area

PARKING

  • The car park area is approximately 11 metres from the gateway to the cottage
  • There is a roadway leading directly to the gateway into the cottage and is for unloading/loading purposes
  • Surface is slightly sloping and rolled stone and lighting is provided

ENTRANCE TO COTTAGE

  • A 90mm step upwards leads through the gateway 1220mm wide then a 190mm step downwards onto a level concrete pathway 1280mm wide. This leads to the front door.
  • Lighting is provided from the front of the cottage.

MAIN ENTRANCE

  • The entrance to the cottage is easily identified with the name of the cottage next to the front door
  • The entrance door is a manual stable door with top half glazed and is 1030mm wide.
  • There is one step up into the cottage 60mm high

INTERIOR

  • Open plan living/ dining and kitchen area
  • Ground floor bathroom
  • Staircase winding up to second storey with 11 steps of riser 210mm.
  • Two bedrooms on second storey

  • The entrance to the cottage is easily identified with the name of the cottage next to the front door
  • The entrance door is a manual stable door with top half glazed and is 930mm wide.
  • There is one step up into the cottage 100mm high

  • Ground floor bathroom
  • Staircase winding up to second storey (Mezzanine Floor) with 12 steps of riser 200mm.
  • Two steps of riser 150mm lead down to two bedrooms

  • A 80mm step upwards leads through the gateway 1220mm wide onto a level concrete pathway 1160mm wide. This leads to the staircase with 11 steps of riser 210mm taking you up to the front door.
  • Lighting is provided from the front of the cottage.

MAIN ENTRANCE

  • The entrance to the cottage is easily identified with the name of the cottage at the bottom of the steps leading to the main entrance
  • The entrance door is a manual door with top half glazed and is 860mm wide.
  • There is one step up into the cottage 30mm high

    • Owl Cottage has a gateway 1180mm wide with a 90 mm step upwards onto a level concrete pathway 1100mm wide leading to the front door

    MAIN ENTRANCE

    • The entrance to the cottage is easily identified with the name of the cottage on the front wall
    • The entrance door is a manual French door fully glazed and is 690mm wide when one door is open and 1380 wide when both French doors are open.
    • There are two steps up into the cottage, each 160mm high

    • Two steps of riser 200mm lead up to the kitchen area

    OTHER INFORMATION

    • Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the cottage (cost £20 per dog per week)
    • Fire alarms are present on both levels of the cottage and are audible
    • Some mobile phone networks are unreliable in the cottage
    • Checking in and out times are 4pm and 10am respectively
