Skokholm is managed by the Wildlife Trust for West Wales and lies just south of Skomer. The island is roughly a mile in length and half a mile across at its widest point. It has deep bays and gullies exposing interesting underlying rock strata in a variety of red and purple hues. The old farmhouse & cottage can be rented for 3, 4 or 7 nights at a time, sleeping upto 15.
Surrounding both Skomer and Skokholm is a marine nature reserve, one of only 3 in the UK
What to see:
- Puffins (2,000 pairs)
- Manx Shearwaters (45,000 pairs)
- Guillimots (10,000 pairs)
- Razorbills
- Storm Petrels
- Choughs
How to get there:
Landing is not permitted on Skokholm apart from those booking the accommodation, for which, specially arranged boats will be needed. The best way to see Skokholm is on a wildlife safari from Dale or an evening boat cruise, a seabird spectaculars, from Martins Haven. These are especially good for viewing rafts of birds heading back to their chicks.
